Local elections next month will feature the participation of a newcomer to Greenlandic politics

Political party Sorlaat Partiiat was formed in Nuuk on Saturday. The party, to be headed by its founder Nikoline Ziemer, describes itself as internationally oriented, libertarian-socialist, and placed at the centre of the political spectrum.

Sorlaat Partiiat will work for a sustainable economic policies. During the founding meeting, Ziemer called the current government's policies irresponsible, but presented no alternative economic policy of her own.

The party also said that increased Greenlandic autonomy from the Danish state would be one of its most important issues.

In domestic issues, the party work to make more resources available for children, and to increase citizen involvement in local government as a way to give people an influence on the future of their nation.

Sorlaat Partiiat will also seek to decrease the influence the government has over state-owned companies. It believes that more should be done to prepare the country for an influx of people from outside the Kingdom of Denmark, should Greenland's natural resources prove to be as lucrative as expected.

The party will get its first chance to face off in elections on 8 April, when voters will go to the polls to elect local councils.
