Hunting and Fishing Minister Ane Hansen has listened to Greenland’s fishermen and will end all trawler fishing for Greenlandic halibut in the northern areas.
It will then only be permitted to fish for the halibut through long line fishing.
As a result of the move, the exemption of Upernavik from 2004 will be withdrawn and no new waivers will be granted for halibut trawling in the area, according to the ministry.
