Greenland's national airport authority Mittarfeqarfiit has plans in place expand the number of air traffic controllers on duty this summer if Cairn Oil’s exploration activities in Disko Bay make this necessary.
Aasiaat Airport will be a key transit point for oil crews and emergency personnel, although Niels Grossen, quality manager for the Mittarfeqarfiit, expects Aasiaat Airport can get by with its regular staff, the airport will put extra staff on duty.
According to Grossen, the extra staff at Aasiaat Airport would be found by authorizing more overtime work, not by reducing the number of air traffic controllers at other airports.
